I awake to the scrabbling of paws on wood floor and thumping. Rolling to turn on the light, I know full well that Finn is having another bout of ‘chase-the-ball’ back leg spasms. I just need to lay a hand, soothe, and say his name to quiet him. But I see Finn, curled, fast asleep. There’s a disconnect. My mind races to catch up, while my eyes take in my other boy in the corner of the bedroom, flipped on his side, half against the wall, legs paddling while his body twitches and bucks violently.

Enzo Calls My Bluff

When Enzo’s former puppy class teacher Dee Ganley, offered up a formal, 6-week Canine Good Citizen Class, I decided we’d enroll.  I had no delusions that he would pass– I wanted the exposure for my sweet, goofy boy who tends to get anxious and can become stressed when encountering new places and situations. He is my work in progress; I wanted to continue to build on his strengths while supporting his weaknesses in a safe venue.

You Can’t Always Get…

Hunting with Enzo

Enzo was having a ball in Puppy Kindergarten and doing a fine job with basic obedience.  My next step had originally been to start tracking with him; however, February in New Hampshire doesn’t provide the optimal conditions in which to introduce a puppy to the sport.  Was there something else?  I went online to Fenzi Dog Sport Academy to peruse their courses…. Gun Dog Foundations?!  The Spinone Italiano just happens to be classified as a versatile hunting dog!  Do I hunt?  No, why do you ask?
